Charleville’s Outback Museum Of Australia Set To Become The Murweh Shire’s Centre Of Discovery, Adventure And Wonder
Rising from the red soil of Charleville’s WWII Secret Base, Cosmos Centre and Charleville Airfield Museum tourism precinct, a unique new building is beginning to capture the attention of locals and visitors alike. Using contemporary building methods, its impressive circular roofline that encapsulates the look of a large verandah, along with rammed earth walls, certainly draw the eye. But what is it?
With the assistance of the Australian Government Building Better Regions Fund, this impressive structure, targeted to capture the natural and social history of the region and enhance our local tourism industry content, is Stage 1 of the Outback Museum of Australia (OMoA).
As the building slowly breathes life into its rammed earth pavilions clustered around a central yarning circle and rock garden, its secrets will begin to emerge. In time, the OMoA building will reveal an incredible tourism experience and become an integral community hub for the Murweh Shire.
With Stage 1 of the structure all but complete, applications have been lodged for various Federal Government funding rounds to complete Stage 2 of the project, planned to add to the overall immersive experience of the Outback Museum of Australia concept.
Showcasing the landscapes, people and industries of Outback Queensland, the OMoA will encapsulate our natural history, ancient Indigenous cultures, resilience in the landscape and in the face of natural disasters, traditional agriculture and innovation, the evolution of industries, and the overall promotion of Southwest Queensland. The Outback Museum of Australia will transform the future of tourism in Charleville, boost the economic activity in the Murweh Shire and more broadly across Southwest Queensland.
To help residents fully immerse themselves into the OMoA experience, plans are underway for a series of community open days and additional promotional opportunities with Stage 2 details to be released in due course.
